A man has appeared in court after being charged with his wife’s murder on Tuesday morning.
Thomas Rainey (59) appeared before Dungannon Magistrates via video link this morning.
At approximately 5:40am on Tuesday morning, PSNI officers responded to a car fire outside a house in Quarry Road. Upon arrival, Thomas’ wife Katrina was found inside the burning car.
Understanding the charges against him, Rainey only spoke when providing his date of birth.
A PSNI detective constable spoke before the court, stating that she believed Thomas could be connected to the murder charge after he was interviewed over the past few days.
An application for bail was not granted and Thomas was remanded in custody to appear in court again via video link on the 10th of November.
Rainey’s defence solicitor said that he was applying for his client to be held in the hospital wing of Maghaberry Prison as a result of significant burn injuries that he sustained.
There were also concerns that Rainey might be self-harming.
