WATCH: Rise in cases worrying but it’s not the time to panic – Reid

Health Service Executive (HSE) chief Paul Reid has stated that although the rise in Covid-19 cases is worrying, it’s not the time to hit the panic button.

However, it poses as an early warning for people to abide by all public health guidelines.

Reid spoke on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne where he stated that there has been a “huge swing” in positivity levels, however, he added that vaccines are working in terms of preventing severe illness or death.

Reid also spoke about ICU cases, stating that 67% of them consist of unvaccinated individuals which he described as being “hugely disproportionate” when just 8% of the adult population is not fully vaccinated.

“I see more meetings happen, more people indoors, and we can go back to work, but we need to go back with the basics right,”.

He said that a return to basics is necessary such as washing hands, social distancing and following public health guidelines.
