Sydney reopens to fully vaccinated for first time in over 100 days

For the first time in over 100 days, Sydney will be reopening to fully vaccinated individuals from today.

The city announced plans to reopen after 70% of the New South Wales state population aged 16 and over was fully vaccinated.

By Monday, 73.5% of the target population was fully vaccinated while 90% had received at least one dose.

With many people eager to enjoy their freedom after being locked down for the past 105 days, some businesses reopened at midnight to deal with the high demand from the public.

The lockdown imposed highly strict restrictions on the more than five million residents from a ban on travelling more than 5km from home, visiting family, playing squash, browsing in supermarkets to attending funerals.

Although reopening, the city will still have limits on mass gatherings and international borders, as well as schools not fully reopening for a few weeks.

New South Wales State Premier Dominic Perrottet stated, “It’s a big day for our state,” while adding that the city’s population has earned it after “100 days of blood, sweat and no beers,”.
