Number of fully-vaccinated in Ireland ‘not high enough’ – HSE

The number of people who are fully vaccinated in Ireland is “not high enough”, a senior HSE official has said.

The HSE’s chief clinical officer, Dr Colm Henry said approximately 8% of the adult population remains unvaccinated, which is roughly around 50,000 people.

Ireland currently has the highest vaccination rate in the European Union (EU), with 92% of the adult population fully vaccinated.

Dr. Colm Henry said of Ireland’s vaccination rate: “It’s not high enough and if you look at the remaining percentage that are not vaccinated, the eligible population is about 8%.”

“It’s a small percentage, but in absolute numbers that may translate to 40,000 or 50,000 people.”

Henry strongly urged those who remain unvaccinated to do so immediately.

There are currently 400 people in Irish hospitals with Covid-19, with 74 in ICU.
