Investigations are underway after a performer died on stage during an opera in Moscow.
The incident occurred at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, which is one of Russia’s most prestigious theatres, during a performance of Sadko.
During the opera, by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, it’s understood that the performer was killed during a scene change.
Following the death of the 37-year-old man, the opera was immediately stopped and the audience was asked to leave, according to comments issued to Interfax news agency by the theatre.
The news agency cited a source stating that the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was crushed by a ramp during a scene change.
The theatre has been struck with prior tragedies, with one incident occurring back in July 2013 when a violinist died after falling into the orchestra pit.
Moscow investigators will continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the recent incident that occurred at the theatre.
