China President Xi Jinping has stated that a “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan “will be and can be realised”.
This comes days after Chinese warplanes made record invasions into the air defence zone of Taiwan.
The self-governed nation lives under the constant threat of invasion by China, which has vowed to seize it one day as it views the nation as its territory.
Mr. Jinping stated, “Realising national reunification by peaceful means best serves the interests of the nation as a whole including our brethren in Taiwan,”.
He warned, “Taiwan independence is the biggest obstacle to the reunification of the motherland and a serious hidden danger,”.
He also warned against foreign interference in Taiwan after it was confirmed by a Pentagon official that US special operations forces have been quietly training Taiwanese troops for months.
Jinping said that the issue with Taiwan is purely China’s internal affair and does not allow any external interference.
