Taoiseach to attend climate change event in Belfast today

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is heading to Northern Ireland to take part in a series of engagements, which includes talks on climate change.

He will be attending an event that will involve discussions from business leaders in relation to how carbon emissions can be cut and how they can meet the global challenge.

The event will also be attended by Stormont’s First and Deputy First Ministers, DUP’s Paul Givan and Sinn Féin’s Michelle O’Neill.

The event is also taking place just weeks ahead of the COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow and is being hosted by Chambers Ireland and the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

With the government announcing its revised National Development Plan, it’s said that €1 billion of the €3.5 billion fund is being made available for the next ten years through the Taoiseach’s Shared Island Fund and could help finance projects such as cross-border greenways and peatland restoration.
