COVID-19: An extensive booster vaccine programme is needed this winter – Varadkar

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has stated that an extensive Covid-19 booster vaccine programme is needed this winter.

Varadkar, who spoke at a Fine Gael party meeting, added that there will be further advice from the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) on the matter.

Meanwhile, Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced that Ireland was “on track” for eliminating the majority of Covid-19 restrictions by the 22nd of October but stated that the wearing of face masks will still be required in retail, public transport and healthcare settings.

Martin also said that medical authorities will look to expanding the number of cohorts who can participate in the vaccine booster programme in the coming weeks.

A decision on this is expected to be made before Christmas.
