Recently, BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin announced that a new formulation of the Covid-19 vaccination will be necessary by the middle of next year to offer protection against virus mutations.
In relation to the current Covid-19 situation, Sahin has expressed opposition towards the necessity of the vaccine update for this year, stating that the current variants were more contagious but were not different enough to undermine the effectiveness of the current vaccines that are available.
Some people may see sense in Sahin’s claims, as viruses mutate they will require more effective vaccines to offer protection against them.
However, other people may not be in favour of this proposal, as the rollout of the additional doses begins to take place for vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
To some, it’s completely unnecessary to keep updating a vaccination for the average population while others believe that it’s completely necessary in order to prevent virus mutations. What’s your opinion on the matter?
Do you think an updated Covid-19 vaccine is necessary?
