The Garda read his victim impact statement at the sentence hearing before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

“There is not a day goes by when I don’t think of the families of those colleagues,” Sgt McManus said.

McManus said he felt physically rocked to his core when he heard of the killing of Garda Colm Horkan in Roscommon last year, saying the news “sent me to a very dark place”.

He said in the weeks after the shooting his children “were uneasy in their own home because they thought the bad man would come to their own house.”

Charles Moore was sentenced to nine years in prison for the offence of endangerment and took the other charges into account.
