Former Garda Superintendent charged over Cannabis seizure at his home

A retired Garda Superintendent has been charged over a €600,000 cannabis seizure at his home in Dublin last week.

Officers linked with the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation recovered 30kg of Cannabis during a search operation on September 29th.


61-year-old John Murphy was arrested last Wednesday and detained at Irishtown Garda Station for questioning.

He was charged last night and appeared before Dublin District Court this morning.

Detective Sergeant Brian Hanley said Murphy made no reply after caution and was handed a copy of the charge sheet.


Murphy is prohibited from contacting four other people who cannot be named.

The Judge remanded Murphy in custody with consent to bail to appear at Cloverhill District Court via video link on Friday.
