Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram suffer global outage

Social media platforms Facebook and Instagram along with WhatsApp have experienced major outages this afternoon.

All three networks, which are all owned by Facebook, suffered an outage at approximately 4:40pm on Monday.

Facebook Workplace and Facebook Messenger also stopped working as a result of the outage.

Using Twitter, Facebook announced the outage while apologising for the inconvenience to users and assuring them that they are currently working on the issue.

The statement read, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience,”.

A similar announcement was issued by WhatsApp on Twitter, which acknowledged that their service had gone down for some users.

A statement from WhatsApp read, “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”
