During the same garda probe, two serving gardaí were investigated for providing intelligence from the Pulse garda system to the former officer.

One of the two officers was suspended while the other officer, understood to be of inspector rank, remains unsuspended.

An investigation remains into determining whether the two gardaí had knowingly or unknowingly passed on intelligence to the former garda officer, who would then pass on information to the Hutch gang.

Detectives attached to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) are continuing to investigate the former garda’s alleged involvement with the Hutch gang.

The NBCI initially began investigating the former garda’s interactions with criminals attached to the Hutch gang after suspicions were raised in recent months due to mobile phone surveillance.

During the raid on the officer’s home, additional items were also seized, including up to 11 mobile phones as well as other electronic devices.

The retired officer remains under questioning at a garda station in Dublin’s south inner city.
