Two gardaí were arrested on Thursday and are being questioned in relation to an alleged assault on a teenager in a south Dublin garda station earlier this year.

A Dublin-based sergeant has been suspended amid allegations of leaking information about the extradition from Spain this week of Irish criminal Gerry Hutch.

Another member of the force was suspended following allegations that the officer had assisted a drug gang.

Five properties that were searched on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of cannabis valued at €600,000 and €47,000 in cash.

A man in his 60s, who is a former senior garda officer, was arrested. He is being detained “on suspicion of involvement in offences… relating to allegedly enhancing the ability of a criminal organisation to commit or facilitate a serious offence”.

A number of gardaí were also targeted in searches as part of the same investigation, leading to the suspension of one officer.
