A new crime thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal has just dropped on Netflix today and it looks epic.
The Guilty is a remake of the 2018 Danish film which also falls under the same name.
Its story centres around a troubled police detective called Joe Baylor, who is demoted to a 911 operator and scrambles to save a distressed caller during a harrowing day of revelations and reckonings.
The very much loved and respected Jake Gyllenhall plays the role of Baylor who receives a 911 call from a woman who Baylor initially thinks is just calling so she can talk to someone, however, just before he hangs up he comes to the realisation that the woman has been abducted.
Following this discovery, Baylor frantically scrambles to locate and save the woman with nothing more than the description of the suspect’s vehicle, ‘a white van’.
The majority of the main cast is featured only as voices, with the victim Emily Lighton being voiced by Riley Keough and her young daughter Abby being voiced by Christiana Montoya.
Among the leading roles, we also have Ethan Hawke as Sgt Bill Miller, Peter Sarsgaard as Henry Fisher, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as the CHP dispatcher.
Many people have already expressed their opinions on the film, with one person saying that it’s just as good as the original Danish version and another stating that it’s one of Gyllenhaal’s best works so far.
One viewer even stated the following, “I rarely recommend Netflix movies here but this one is different. Emotional roller coaster ride. Jake Gyllenhaal nailed his performance. Bringing pain to the character beautifully.”
But how about you give the trailer below a watch and judge for yourself.
