Restaurants won’t be able to insist customers show their Covid pass after October 22nd

Restaurants and pubs will not be able to insist that customers continue to show their Covid pass upon entry to hospitality settings from October 22nd.

Cabinet agreed to extend the emergency provisions until January 2022, such provisions allow for hospitality settings to open under certain conditions, such as using the Covid pass.

However, Government continues to stress that the plan is to lift most remaining restrictions on October 22nd, which will stop the use of Covid pass for indoor hospitality settings.

The Government claim the extension to the emergency provisions is a precautionary measure.

A Government spokesperson was asked if pubs and restaurants will be able to ask customers for their vaccination certs after October 22nd.

“No, as these provisions also need a regulation signed by the Minister responsible to bring it into force. The Minister for Health will sign a regulation to cover October 9th to October 22nd,” they said.

Leo Varadar also said from October 22nd, people will be able to order a drink at the bar again as the legal requirement for social distancing will be abolished.
