Gardaí will take ‘no further action’ over St. Patrick’s party at castle owned by Dolores Cahill

Gardaí will not be pursuing further action over a St. Patrick’s week party that took place at a castle owned by campaigner Dolores Cahill.

An investigation was launched earlier this year into an event that took place at Athy’s White Castle allegedly on the evening of the 16th of March when Level 5 restrictions were in place.

Former UCD lecturer and chair of the Irish Freedom Party Dolores Cahill owned the castle, which is situated on Duke Street in the centre of Athy.

When the party ended in the early hours of the morning, large groups of people poured out onto the streets prompting complaints from locals.

Several people were issued fixed penalty notices for non-essential travel in the area and an investigation into an alleged breach of Public Health Regulations was carried out.

Although a number of Fixed Payment Notices were issued for non-essential journeys, no further action was taken by gardaí.

Sources indicate that it’s unlikely any further charges would be pursued at this point.

It’s not known if Dolores Cahill was in attendance at the gathering and she made no comment to The Journal at the time.
