Twenty young men board Luas and assault passenger

Gardaí are investigating an incident in which a group of twenty youths boarded a tram and assaulted a youth on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at approximately 5:40pm at the Parnell Street stop on the Luas Red Line.

It remains unclear whether anyone was injured in the attack.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí were alerted to an incident of youths at the Luas line at Parnell Street assaulting a youth this evening.”

“A number of Garda units attended the scene and youths had dispersed upon arrival.”

The Luas driver used the speaker to tell the youths that the tram would not be moving until they left.

The driver further assured passengers that the events were recorded on CCTV and would assist a Garda investigation.
