As the government reviews the current situation in regards to rewarding frontline staff for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has suggested that bus and retail workers should be considered for a pandemic bonus.
Currently, the Coalition has expressed its willingness to reward healthcare workers for their efforts during the pandemic, with an announcement to be made in the upcoming budget.
This reward may either be presented in the form of a cash payment or an additional bank holiday.
It has been suggested that healthcare workers be considered for an extra payment due to their exposure to the virus during the pandemic.
Along with bus and retail workers, Ryan has also suggested that gardaí could be included for exhibiting “real leadership” throughout the pandemic.
In regards to the additional bank holiday, Ryan said that no date has yet been decided on.
