Covid-19 patient who left Letterkenny hospital and later returned has died

A Covid-19 patient who left Letterkenny University Hospital last week after being encouraged by anti-vaccination campaigners has died in hospital.

Joe McCarron (75), who was being treated for Covid-19 at Letterkenny University Hospital, received nationwide attention after anti-vaccination campaigners live-streamed him leaving the hospital against the advice of medical workers.

In the video, the campaigners are telling McCarron that he will die if he remains in hospital, claiming that he was being forced into ICU.

McCarron was then returned to the hospital two days later after experiencing breathing difficulties.

His condition had deteriorated in recent days and he was unfortunately pronounced dead yesterday.

McCarron’s family had issued an apology to the hospital staff last week in regards to the video while expressing deep criticism towards the campaigners who encouraged him.

“They did not help Joe’s recovery in any way. We would encourage everyone to follow proper medical advice,”.
