COVID-19: Parents will not be informed if there is a positive case in child’s class

Parents with children in primary schools will not be informed if there is a positive Covid-19 case in their child’s class.

Children who are close contacts of confirmed cases will no longer be tested from next Monday.

Parents have expressed concerns over not being told if there is a positive case in their child’s classgroup.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education said: “The public health advice is that anyone who has symptoms of Covid-19 should self-isolate at home immediately and contact their GP for advice and guidance, and to arrange a Covid-19 test if appropriate.”

“This will help to keep schools safe and keep Covid-19 out of schools.”

“It is important to remember that the confirmed case is no longer within the school and therefore the risk of onward transmission from that person has been removed from the school setting.”

“Public health has advised schools that in these circumstances, there is no clinical need for information to be shared with other people in the school.”
