Increase in Covid-19 outbreaks in schools – HPSC

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) has confirmed that there has been a further increase in the number of Covid-19 outbreaks in schools.

There were 90 outbreaks in schools last week, which ultimately resulted in 412 linked cases to the virus.

This compares to 40 outbreaks in the previous week, with 191 linked cases.

Of the 90 outbreaks last week, 78 were in primary schools, 11 were in secondary schools and one was in special education.

There was also one outbreak in a University, which linked to seven further cases.

The overall number of outbreaks across the country last week was 198, an increase from the previous week when 1169 were reported.
