Coroner confirms Gabby Petito was murdered, as search for boyfriend continues

A US coroner has confirmed that Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito, who went missing on the 11th of September, was murdered.

A massive search was launched after the 22-year-old’s family filed a missing person report after she went missing while on a road trip with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie.

A body that was found in Wyoming was confirmed by the FBI that it was the body of Gabby Petito.

With her identity being confirmed by the Teton County coroner, an FBI statement read that the “initial determination for the manner of death is homicide. The cause of death remains pending final autopsy results,”.

Before her disappearance, Petito quit her job and went for a cross-country adventure with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie (23) in July, documenting their journey through a number of Instagram posts.

Brian Laundrie, who was declared a person of interest, also went missing.

The FBI has urged anyone with information in relation to Laundrie’s whereabouts and his role in the disappearance of Ms. Petito to contact them.

FBI Denver Special Agent In Charge Michael Schneider stated, “The FBI and our partners remain dedicated to ensuring anyone responsible for or complicit in Ms. Petito’s death is held accountable for their actions,”.

Although many of the videos posted by the couple reveal them to be happy together, police in Utah had responded to a domestic violence report back in August involving the couple.

Police bodycam footage shows a distraught Petito crying, stating that she had an altercation with Laundrie.

Adding that she struggles with mental health problems, Petito said that she slapped Laundrie after an argument but said that she meant no harm.

No charges were brought but the couple was ordered to spend a night apart to calm down.
