At least eight people killed following Russian University shooting

A student has opened fire at a University campus in Russia, killing at least eight people.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said several people have also been injured in the assault at Perm State University.

The suspect has been wounded and is currently detained.

Russia has relatively few school shootings due to the strict security laws in education facilities, and because of the difficulty to purchase firearms legally.

However, this is the second mass shooting at an education facility in Russia this year.

The last such deadly attack took place in May 2021, when a 19-year-old gunman opened fire in his old school in central Russia, killing nine people.

Authorities are claiming that young Russians are being exposed to negative influences online.
