Two men charged with murder of journalist Lyra McKee

The PSNI has charged two men with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.

The 29-year-old journalist was shot dead in Derry on April 18th 2019.

The 21-year-old and 33-year-old suspects are also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, riot, possession of petrol bombs, throwing petrol bombs and arson.

A third man has also been charged with riot, possession of petrol bombs and throwing petrol bombs. He is 20-years-old.

Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis welcomed the development.

“The tragic murder of Lyra McKee was a reminder that a small minority of individuals continue to seek to cause harm to communities,” Lewis said.

“This was an utterly senseless and shocking crime and I applaud the continued work of the PSNI to bring those responsible to justice.”
