Ireland on track to lift most restrictions next month – Holohan

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Tony Holohan has said Ireland is on track to ease most Covid-19 restrictions next month.

Speaking at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health, Holohan said the restrictions can be eased due to a lot of encouraging trends in age specific groups.

The CMO was asked whether the country is still on track to ease the majority of restrictions on October 22nd.

Holohan told the committee that he expects that Ireland will be in that position in a number of weeks.

Holohan then went on to say that although he cannot foresee further lockdowns, “We can never absolutely rule anything out,” he said.

However, the CMO cautioned that there is so much infection out in the population, that it is contributing to outbreaks in nursing homes.
