Prince Andrew’s legal team claim documents will absolve him of liability in sexual assault case

The Duke of York’s legal team has claimed that a woman who is accusing him of sexually assaulting her has an agreement “releasing the duke and others from any and all potential liability”.

Virginia Giuffre claims she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17-years-old.

At a pre-trial hearing, the Duke’s legal team said Giuffre had previously entered into a settlement agreement that would nullify her current lawsuit.

“We believe this is a baseless, unviable and potentially unlawful lawsuit that the plaintiff has filed against the duke,” Prince Andrew’s lawyer said.

“There has been a settlement agreement that the plaintiff has entered into in a prior action that releases the duke and others from any and all potential liability.”

Giuffre is seeking unspecified damages, but there is speculation the sum could be in the millions of dollars.
