US President Joe Biden calls for unity on 20th anniversary of 9/11

US President Joe Biden has called for unity and for the US to reclaim the spirit of co-operation that occurred in the days following the 9/11 attacks, which took place 20 years ago today.

Marking his first anniversary of the attack as commander in chief, Biden was a senator when the attacks took place back in 2001.

Biden plans to pay his respects at the three sites where the attacks took place but will leave his speech-making to others.

He will begin by visiting New York City where the World Trade Centre’s twin towers once stood before being struck by two hijacked planes and causing them to collapse.

He will then travel to Shanksville, Pennsylvania where one of the hijacked planes crashed into a field after passengers overpowered the hijackers.

Biden’s final stop will be in the Washington area where he will visit the Pentagon, which was attacked by one of the four hijacked planes.

The White House released a taped-address last night where Biden spoke about the “true sense of national unity” that occurred after the attacks.

He stated that the “central lesson” of the attacks was the true sense of unity that emerged afterwards while adding, “Unity is our greatest strength.”
