‘Rules should be no different for me’ – Varadkar

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said that he obeyed the restrictions that were in place in the UK while attending a music event in London at the weekend.

“The advice that we give people travelling abroad is that you obey the rules and regulations and the restrictions of the country that you’re in, and that’s what I did,” Varadkar said.

“I often feel that any rules or regulations that apply to the public should apply to me too.”

“And if that means that you can travel abroad and if it means that you can attend a match or a concert, well, the rules should be no different for me,” he continued.

Varadkar further said that he was one of the main advocates for pushing for Electric Picnic to go ahead this year.

“I’ve been a strong advocate for the early reopening of the events sector.”

This was Varadkar’s first public comment on the incident.
