Florida Governor DeSantis fights court’s ruling allowing masks in schools

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appealed a judge’s ruling that states the Governor exceeded his authority by ordering school districts to not require face mask mandates for schools.

DeSantis’s attorneys took his appeal to the 1st District Court of Appeal on Thursday, in an attempt to reverse Judge John C. Cooper’s ruling.

Judge Cooper last week gave power to 67 school districts in the state to impose mask requirements.

The Judge noted that DeSantis’s executive order was unconstitutional and cannot be enforced.

DeSantis has said he is confident that he will win his appeal, which would allow him to prevent school districts from imposing mask mandates.

Florida is currently battling a wave of the Delta variant, which has pushed hospitals to full capacity. However, the wave does appear to be plateauing.
