European Medicines Agency reviewing risk of rare inflammation condition after Covid-19 vaccinations

The European Medicines Agency is reviewing if there is a risk of a rare inflammation condition after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

This comes after the condition Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS) was reported in a 17-year-old male in Denmark after he received the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.

The regulator stated that the boy has made a full recovery and that the condition has also been reported following the administration of other Covid-19 vaccines.

MIS is a serious but rare condition that causes inflammation in certain body parts such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs.

The condition has also been reported in people who were infected with the Covid-19 virus.

EMA stated that there has been no present change to its recommendations for the use of the Pfizer vaccine, as well as other vaccines.

According to the regulator, five cases of MIS were reported after the Pfizer vaccine in the European Economic Area as of August 19th, while one case was reported in both J&J’s and Moderna’s vaccines.
