Easing of two-metre rule likely in certain circumstances – Donnelly

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly stated that the easing of the two-metre social distancing rule is likely for certain circumstances.

The easing will solely depend on the requirement of individual sectors, be it sport or entertainment.

Although the two-metre social distancing rule may be eased, masks are likely to still be required in health and retail sectors, as well as public transport.

From the 6th of September, large crowds will be allowed to gather at religious ceremonies and sporting events.

Indoor events will be allowed to operate at 60% capacity while outdoor locations will be set at 75% capacity.

Live music will also be returning to weddings and bars while a phased return to offices will begin from September 20th.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan stated that all the current restrictions would be relaxed and replaced with personal responsibility.

He added, “We will be coming back to college and back to the offices, but we need to keep our masks on in public transport and in retail. That won’t change.”
