Biden warns a further airport attack ‘highly likely’ in Afghanistan as U.S vows more airstrikes on ISIS-K

U.S President Joe Biden has warned that another terrorist attack at Kabul airport in Afghanistan is “highly likely in the next 24-36 hours”.

The Pentagon confirmed that two high profile ISIS-K fighters were killed following a U.S airstrike.

However, Biden cautioned he expected more violence in the Afghan capital before the U.S planned withdrawal on August 31st.

“The situation on the ground continues to be extremely dangerous, and the threat of terrorist attacks on the airport remains high,” Biden said.

“Our commanders informed me that an attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours.”

The U.S are due to fully withdraw from Afghanistan on August 31st. However, it remains unclear whether that deadline will be extended, due to the unease and distress, particularly at Kabul airport.
