Music promoters MCD have said they have re-applied for a license to hold Electric Picnic 2021 to Laois County Council.
The original application was declined by Laois Council due to public health concerns at the time.
However, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Tony Holohan said last night when asked if concerts like Electric Picnic should go ahead for vaccinated people: “We wouldn’t have a concern from a public health point of view if everyone is vaccinated.”
Holohan said such social events involving only vaccinated people has a much different risk profile than if there is a possibility unvaccinated people may be present.
Caroline Downey of MCD said that in light of the remarks made by Dr. Tony Holohan and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, they have re-applied to Laois County Council to run Electric Picnic.
Downey said if they are granted the license, organisers would only allow people who work or attend the festival to be fully vaccinated, using the Covid Certificate to confim their status.
Laois County Council have not yet made a comment.
