Western security forces were involved in an exchange of fire between unidentified gunmen at Kabul airport.
The firefight, which broke out at dawn, resulted in one Afghan being killed and three others sustaining injuries.
According to the German military, the firefight erupted between Afghan guards and unknown assailants. Afghan security forces were assisted by US and German troops during the exchange of fire.
This is the latest chaotic outbreak that has occurred in Afghanistan, as an operation that has evacuated approximately 30,000 people remains underway.
These evacuation operations have been implemented as the Taliban takes control of the country, leading to thousands attempting to flee the nation.
Out of desperation, thousands of Afghans fled to Kabul airport, resulting in stampedes and crushing injuries.
At least eight deaths have been reported in the chaos, three of which were related to individuals falling from an airborne military aircraft that they clung to upon the plane’s departure.
Although evacuations are still underway, US President Joe Biden wants all US troops out of Afghanistan by the 31st of August.
However, Biden stated that this deadline would be extended until all US citizens are evacuated from the country.
Biden has also faced pressure to extend the deadline as the European Union and Britain stated that it would be impossible to evacuate everyone by the 31st of August.
