Man in his 20s dies following collision in Limerick

A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle collision in Limerick that occurred at approximately 1am this morning on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale Road.

The passenger of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick to undergo a post-mortem examination.


Another passenger aged in his 20s was taken to University Hospital Limerick to undergo treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, who according to gardaí was in his late teens, was arrested and taken to Henry Street Garda Station where he is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.


Any road users in possession of dash-cam footage who were travelling on the R158 at Cragmore Askeaton at the time of the incident are also asked to contact gardaí.
