Video footage has been circulating on social media of an incident that occurred at a reptile centre in Utah, US.
The video footage shows one of the handlers enter the enclosure before her hand is pulled in by the alligator, dragging her into the water.
The incident took place at a kid’s birthday party at Scales and Tails, located in Salt Lake City, and was filmed by one of the guests at the party.
During the attack, one of the guests ‘Donnie Wiseman’ intervened in an attempt to free the handler. He was then assisted by another guest ‘Todd Christopher’ before setting the handler free, with instructions given from her during the attack.
Another guest named Amy Christopher performed first aid on the handler while waiting for emergency services.
While thanking the guests for their heroism, Scales and Tails stated that they hope the incident never happens again while adding that working with animals has “inherent risks”.
The statement went on to say, “These gentlemen could have stayed in the safety zone as most of us would, but instead jumped into the situation, of their own volition, and helped secure the alligator.”
In regards to the staff member, the centre stated that she is doing well and is in recovery.
