Taliban entering Afghanistan capital Kabul ‘from all sides’

The Taliban have entered the Afghanistan capital of Kabul, Government officials have said.

One Government official said the Taliban are entering Kabul “from all sides”.

The Afghan Presidential account on Twitter said firing had been heard at a number of points around Kabul.

However, it was added that security forces, in cooperation with international partners, had control of the city.

A Taliban officials said the group did not want any casualties as it took charge, but a ceasefire has not been declared.

The US withdrew the majority of their remaining troops from Afghanistan last month, leaving behind a country which the Taliban was rapidly gaining power in.

Over the past few weeks the Islamist group has made lightning advances across the country, bringing the Taliban to Kabul in a matter of days.
