Covid-19 vaccines preventing 10,000 cases & 500 hospital admissions every week – Dr. Ronan Glynn

Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Ronan Glynn has said that the Covid-19 vaccine programme in Ireland is currently preventing 10,000 weekly cases of the virus.

Glynn also said that the vaccination programme is preventing at least 500 hospital admissions per week in Ireland.

He then went on to say that if it wasn’t for the vaccination programme the current 14-day incidence would be approximately 1,000 per 100,000.

Ireland currently has 83.6% of the population over the age of 12 partially vaccinated against Covid-19, with 73.6% fully vaccinated.

Today, the Department of Health confirmed a further 1,758 cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

The Department further confirmed that there are currently 248 patients in Irish hospitals with Covid-19, with 48 in ICU.
