Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases resulting from the Delta variant, the Canadian government will be requiring all federal workers to get vaccinated.
While urging all federal workers to comply with the mandatory requirement, Minister Dominic LeBlanc stated, “We know that vaccines are the best way to end this pandemic,”.
In the coming weeks, there will be an inoculation deadline announced for nearly 300,000 public servants.
Those who will be required to get vaccinated are employees in the federally regulated air, rail and marine transportation sectors.
This new requirement will also extend to all commercial air travellers, passengers on interprovincial trains, as well as passengers who are travelling on large marine vessels with overnight accommodation.
According to LeBlanc, the vaccine mandate is aimed at helping Canada reach a minimum level of coverage needed to fully reopen the economy.
Of Canada’s 38 million population, 82% of people have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while nearly 71% are fully vaccinated.
