Elderly man dies following three-vehicle collision in Galway

Investigations are ongoing by gardaí following a fatal three-vehicle collision that took place in Galway yesterday.

The collision occurred shortly before 1pm at the intersection of the M6 and M17.


A total of three cars that were travelling on the eastbound lane were involved in the collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision.

A woman who was travelling in the first car as a passenger was taken to Galway University Hospital.


Two women who were driving the other two cars were also hospitalised at Galway University Hospital following the collision.

Two of the women currently remain in hospital.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or was travelling on the east or westbound lanes of the M6 between 12:40pm and 1:00pm, to contact them.

Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who were travelling on the road during the above period, and are in possession of dash-cam footage, to contact them.
