Vaccinations for 12-15-year-olds expected to begin this weekend

The director of the HSE National Immunisation Office has said Covid-19 vaccinations for children aged 12-15 are expected to begin this weekend.

Dr. Lucy Jessop said registration for the vaccine on the online portal will begin this Thursday and will require the consent of a parent or guardian.

Jessop said the HSE is expecting a strong uptake among this age cohort.

However, Jessop urged parents to read information from reliable sources before getting their children vaccinated.

“It’s important that a parent make the right choice for their family,” she added.

Jessop said children in this age cohort will be offered an mRNA vaccine, which is either the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna, and two doses will be required.

The vaccines will be administered through vaccination centres, GP’s and Pharmacies.
