Missing five-year-old boy dies after being found in river

A five-year-old boy who was reported as missing in the early hours of this morning has died after he was recovered from a river in Wales.

The young boy was reported as missing at approximately 5:45am in the Sarn area of Bridgend. The child was found in the Ogmore River by police officers after a search was launched.

He was then rushed to Princess of Wales Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances of the incident, with police urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact them.

Police also want to speak to any witnesses who can provide information as to how the boy entered the water.

As the investigation is currently active, Chief Inspector Geraint White has asked that the public refrains from speculating on social media about the incident; while adding, “This is a tragic incident in which a young child has sadly lost their life.”

“We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as this is an active investigation. If you have any information that can help, please report this to us. Our thoughts are with the family and we are supporting them in every way we can.”
