Simon Harris says Covid-19 vaccine portal should open for 16-17-year-olds in August

Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris has said he expects the Covid-19 vaccine portal will open for those aged 16-17-years-old by August.

Harris said he would like to see the portal open as quickly as possible as there has been a recent spike in cases within this age bracket.

He went on to say that many people in this age cohort will be going onto third level education this year.

“Many of them could end up being college students but also, we’re seeing a particular spike in cases among that age group,” he said.

“It would be great if, early in August, we could see the portal open for 16 and 17-year-olds and that is my expectation that that will happen”.

Harris confirmed this week that third-level institutions will return to on-campus learning from September.
