Man and woman drown in separate incidents in Cavan and Leitrim

A man and a woman have been confirmed dead after drowning in separate incidents in Cavan and Leitrim.

Gardaí were called to an incident at Loch Gowna in Cavan shortly before 9.30pm yesterday evening.


The body of a young woman in her 20s was recovered a short time later.

The body of the woman has been brought to the mortuary at Navan Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 

In Leitrim, at approximately 9:00pm, a man in his 70s was snorkeling at Spencer Harbour in Drumkeeran, when he failed to resurface.


The mans body was recovered by emergency services shortly after the alarm was raised.

His body has been brought to Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
