Deputy chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn has warned the Delta Covid-19 variant has different symptoms to the previous strains of the virus.
There has been a significant number of people displaying symptoms of sore-throats, coughs, nasal congestion and headaches after being infected by the Delta variant.
“Anyone with sore throat, headache, runny nose, blocked nose or sinus should not assume it’s a regular cold. Don’t assume it is hay fever or seasonal. If it’s any way unusual for you, please isolate and get a test,” he said.
Online medical directory for family doctors, GP Buddy, found that sore-throat was the most common symptom of the Delta variant, followed by cough and nasal congestion.
Research from the UK has found the Delta variant is appearing more like cold symptoms to many people who become infected.
Anyone with symptoms of a common cold is being urged to isolate and arrange a PCR test immediately.
