Reopening of nightclubs ruled out for quite some time, says Varadkar

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has ruled out the reopening of nightclubs for a significant amount of time.

Varadkar added that although nightclubs will not reopen as clubs for quite some time, they will be permitted to reopen as licensed venues with table service only along with a maximum of six people per table.

According to Minister for Tourism Catherine Martin, there will be a pilot event for the reopening of nightclubs.

Similar pilot events have been taking place across the country which includes live music events.

Varadkar stated that the reopening of additional indoor activities such as bingo halls and bowling alleys could reopen with a similar system that has been implemented for indoor hospitality.

New legislation, which is hoped to be passed by the Dáil and Seanad this week, will grant access to indoor hospitality to fully vaccinated individuals.

The legislation also allows people who have recovered from Covid-19 in the last six months to dine indoors, as well as under 19s who are accompanied by a fully vaccinated individual.
