Covid-19 outbreak in Australia worsens despite lockdowns

Australia’s Covid-19 cases are continuing to rise as a result of the Delta variant.

Over one-hundred cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Sydney, despite the city entering its third week of lockdown.

Case numbers have been at record levels in recent days.

“It is really up to us. The health expert advice will be based on what those numbers look like. I can’t be clearer than that,” State Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

Berejiklian said the majority of cases being reported now are family members and close friends of infected people.

She is pleading with the people to adhere to lockdown rules, which were further tightened over the weekend.
