England to lift mandatory face-coverings and social distancing rules

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that all legal restrictions imposed as a result of Covid-19 will end on July 19th, depending on Covid-19 data.

Johnson said the Government will lift the legal requirements on face coverings, but that the public should make their own personal judgement.

It will be confirmed next Monday whether the final easing of restrictions can occurr, depending on the latest data.

“In these circumstances we must take a careful and a balanced decision. And there’s only one reason why we can contemplate going ahead to step four in circumstances where we’d normally be locking down further, and that’s because of the continuing effectiveness of the vaccine rollout,” Johnson said.

He went on to say the pandemic is far from over, but that society needs to learn to live with the virus.
