Elderly man dies following Tipperary car crash

A man in his 80s has died following a two-car collision on the M8 in Tipperary that occurred shortly after 4pm yesterday.

The incident occurred on the southbound lane of the M8 between junction 6 Thurles and Junction 7 Cashel North.


The elderly man, who was the sole occupant of his car, was pronounced dead at the scene while a woman in her 30s was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The body of the elderly man was removed to the mortuary at South Tipperary Hospital, Clonmel.

Major delays were reported following the incident while diversions were being implemented. The scene was attended by gardaí and emergency services as well as Forensic Collision Investigators.


Video footage that has been circulating online of the car collision has come to the attention of gardaí, who have urged people to refrain from sharing the video out of respect to the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dash-cam footage of the collision to contact Thurles Garda Station at 050 425 100 or the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111.
